Nova 535's Got Talent: The Big Bang Show Is LOL Funny

Vi Noy catches some of the comedy acts at Nova, including Big Cheese's take on Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and a hilarious impersonation of Lady Gaga.

Often I text LOL in Facebook or on Twitter, but at the Big Bang Show at Nova 535, I actually did LOL -- and so loudly -- that fellow audience members turned their heads, as well as some of the acts on stage. “I was thinking about them, thinking about me, thinking about how many I’m gonna eat. I open my eyes I was in front of Krispy Kreme…” contestant Big Cheese rapped to the tune of Nelly’s song “Just a Dream.” Big Cheese may have not been the winner of this adult-only variety show, but if I were one of the judges, he definitely would have moved onto the next round.  This hysterical St. Petersburg native is a parody rapper with more than 2.7 million page views on YouTube and is referred to as to “the black Weird Al Yankovic.” “And I …

Vi Hits Her Stride at a Smokin' VIP Cigar Event -- the Largest in Florida

From the moment I set foot on the sand, passing a gorgeous purple Harley from Jim’s Harley-Davidson of St. Petersburg, I knew I was going to have a blast. And I was determined to sit on one of those Big Boy bikes before the night was over.

ST. PETE BEACH - While Vi was hoping for a VIP invite to the largest cigar event in the state at the stunning Don CeSar Beach Resort, she wound up with the next best offer— to work with one of the sponsors allowing a special insider’s glimpse into this year’s Cigars and Guitars. From the moment I set foot on the sand, passing a gorgeous purple Harley from Jim’s Harley-Davidson of St. Petersburg, I knew I was going to have a blast. And I was determined to sit on one of those Big Boy bikes before the night was over. But first duty called! When friend and BerNiko, LLC's Central/North Florida State Manager Karin Caramello asked me if I “wanted to help out” at this popular event, how could I resist? If no one was going to foot my bill for the $…

Vi Noy Finds a Vintage Valentine

Maybe her latest purchase at Revolve After Dark Sweetheart Edition is more '80s than vintage, but either way it's a bargain.

Vi is definitely no stranger to fashion and certainly not to Revolve Clothing Exchange in St. Petersburg. Before launching this column, I ventured into this vintage 4th Street shop for just the right outfit and met two of the sweetest fashionistas: Christina Flannery and Emily Rae, who helped develop just the right look for Vi. So when they sent me the Facebook invitation to attend the Revolve after Dark Sweetheart Edition event, how could I resist? Besides any gal— with or without a sweetheart this Valentine’s Day— knows clothes, heels and handbags make the perfect treat. Throw in the free beverages, snacks and discounts; what shopaholic wouldn’t be there? “Just so you know, 50 percent off all vintage for the next 30 minutes,” salesperson…

Ruby's Elixir: Creative Cocktails in a Speakeasy-Style Setting

Vi's dance card may have been filled for the grand opening of Ruby's Elixir, but nothing could keep her away from this new speakeasy-style jazz bar for very long!

ST. PETERSBURG - Vi has been patiently — OK, maybe a little impatiently — waiting to check out the newly opened jazz club, Ruby’s Elixir. Too many social commitments caused me to miss the grand opening... What's one gal to do, with so many R.S.V.P.s to answer and just so many hours in one night? But the time was right this past weekend, and the wait definitely paid off. There wasn't the crowd of gawkers that attend high-profile grand openings. There was just a crowd of soon-to-be regulars milling about. The bar’s Prohibition-era speakeasy style is too tempting to resist, from the fun cocktails to the toe-tapping sounds of jazz. Ruby’s owners claim music is “an elixir for the soul,” and they’re right. As soon as I rounded the corner of …

Our Social Maven Finds Fashion Fit for an Art Gallery and Red Carpet

"I really wanted to try on a wire mesh flapper-style dress that was accentuated with a black boa."

Vi’s fashion showdown with the First Friday fashionistas created such a buzz over the merits of Ugh — I mean, Ugg — boots that I decided to take fashion to the next level. What better way than to turn to people who really know how to push the envelope? When I found out about “Closet Artists: Art to Wear” at the Florida Craftsmen gallery on Central Avenue, I couldn’t resist asking for a sneak peak of the one-of-a-kind fashion and accessories exhibit before it opened to the public. And the nonprofit organization representing thousands of Florida artists was more than happy to let me in before the opening reception. But the group also allowed me to take pictures, usually an art gallery no-no.  Snooping and snapping photos made me feel welcome…

Vi Noy Strikes a Pose in Straub Park

I know we haven’t officially met, but you will be seeing a lot of Miss Vi Noy around Downtown St. Petersburg and the Old Northeast. For my first social outing I stopped by South Straub Park for a charity yoga class.

I know we haven't met yet, but you're going to be seeing a lot of me around Downtown St. Petersburg and the Old Northeast. I'm what you might call a social butterfly.  But for me it's not just enough to be at the right spots at the right time, I want to take all of you with me. For my first official social outing I grabbed my yoga mat and stopped by South Straub Park for a donation-only class to help save the manatees. "Yoga in the Park: Salutations to the Sea" is a monthly class sponsored by several local businesses including Yoga Energy Studio and Natural Health St. Pete. Sitting in the lush green grass surrounded by other yoga enthusiasts, I couldn't help but feel relaxed with the backdrop of boats docked along the St. Petersburg Marina…
