St. Pete Pride 2013

The South's largest Gay Pride celebration will be held June 26-30. You can get more information at the St. Pete Pride WEB site.

Bob Buckhorn has become the first Tampa Bay Mayor to sign an LGBT Pride month proclamation.

In his proclamation, Mayor Bob Buckhorn wrote: “LGBT Pride is defined as the positive stance against discrimination and violence towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, and equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.”

He concluded the proclamation by stating, “(I) urge all citizens to join in ending prejudice everywhere it may exist, respect the rights of all people, and celebrate the diversity and richness of our city.”

Even though the celebration is one of the largest in the South drawing upwards of 100,000 visitors to the Bay area, no sitting St. Petersburg Mayor has ever signed a proclamation recognizing the event.

The Promenade and Festival will take place Saturday June 29. The location is Central Avenue from 21st Street to 29th Street.

The Promenade and Festival is a great event reminiscent in many ways of Key West's Fantasy Fest. There are lots of vendors, dignitaries and a really great parade.

The event begins at 9:00AM, if you're planning on attending for the parade, be sure to get there early parking is always scarce.

I have been to every St. Pete Pride Festival except 1 since the event started 11 years ago. It is a fun event.
