Chicken Wars, Take Home Police Cars, and The LENS

St. Pete Elections

Campaigning for City Council and Mayor began in earnest this week. Monday's District 4 City Council Forum was interesting. Richard Eldridge should have stayed home and phoned in his part. Carolyn Fries, a political new comer, stayed on pretty familiar ground with softball answers to most questions, Darden Rice used a crib sheet for many of her answers staying generally in the middle of most issues. Rice was caught a bit off guard when Dr. David McKalip challenged her directly on a number of positions. His "I want to put your tax money back in your pocket" theme seemed to resonate.

Rick Kriseman, the best funded of the mayor candidates, is putting his out of town money to use in well done a television ad. You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRO6zR-Q1ic&noredirect=1 You can comment below.

Jim Kennedy seems to be sleeping through the primary. Not a big problem since his race doesn't stand for election until November. Let's hope he wakes up before then. In the mean time support for his opponent is Loraine Margeson is growing rapidly.

The LENS

The City's LENS Information tour got off to a bit of a rough start. You can read my Post at The LENS Road Show A Bumpy Start .

In an e-mail exchange with Councilman Charlie Gerdes he indicated his neighborhood LENS meeting would be different and Raul Quintana , Mike Connors and Lisa Wannamacher will be there.  Chris Ballestra is not scheduled to attend.

Chicken Wars

The St. Pete Chicken started showing up at candidate debates and forums chiding Kathleen Ford about skipping some events. Saturday,  the Tampa Bay Times accused my friend Peter Schorsch of been behind the hi jinx. Person in The Chicken Suit Ruffles Some Feathers.

Last I heard Peter was resting comfortably in his coup on the old northeast side, hatching his next plot.

I also heard there are a couple of people trying to find someone to show up at a Bill Foster event dressed in a Peter Schorsch suit.

Take Home Police Cars

Police Chief Chuck Harmon finally came up with the costs associated with take home cars being driven out of the City and out of the County after telling Council he didn't have the information. Only took me a few days to get most of it via a public records request.

Am I the only one that it bothers that the Police Chief seems to fade the truth on a regular basis?
